Joe Hartman is the Founder of GRAY. As an experienced financial modeller, ex-VC investor and Corporate Finance advisor, Joe brings a rare blend of technical modelling expertise and real-world investment insight.

 

Over his career, Joe has been involved with more than £1bn of investments and fundraisings. He is one of the few financial modelling consultants with a background in both Private Equity and Venture Capital investing, enabling him to build commercially grounded forecasts, valuation models and investor-ready financial metrics that directly support successful fundraising outcomes.

Before founding GRAY, Joe was an early employee of Octopus Investments - one of the fastest growing investment businesses in the UK - where he served as Investment Director and Deputy Head of Apollo VCT, a £200m growth and buyout fund.

 

Prior to this, he held senior Corporate Finance advisory roles at BDO and Grant Thornton, further shaping his expertise as a leading financial modelling consultant working with high-growth companies. 

 

Having built models as a consultant and reviewed them at Investment Committee and deal stage as an investor, Joe knows what a buyer's team is looking for — because he's been that team.

Today, Joe works closely with Founders, CFOs and investment teams, advising on how to build genuinely “Investor-ready” financial models, and getting ready for exit.

 

He also sits on the Investment Committee of Blackfinch Ventures, a seed-stage tech VC..
