Joe Hartman is the Founder of GRAY, one of the most active financial modelling consultancies in the UK. As an experienced financial modeller, VC investor and Corporate Finance advisor, Joe brings a rare blend of technical modelling expertise and real-world investment insight.

 

Over his career, Joe has been involved with approximately £500m of investments and fundraisings. He is one of the few financial modelling consultants with a background in both Private Equity and Venture Capital investing, enabling him to build commercially grounded forecasts, valuation models and investor-ready financial metrics that directly support successful fundraising outcomes.

Before founding GRAY, Joe was an early employee of Octopus Investments - one of the fastest growing investment businesses in the UK - where he served as Investment Director and Deputy Head of Apollo VCT, a £150m growth and buyout fund. Prior to this, he held senior Corporate Finance advisory roles at BDO and Grant Thornton, further shaping his expertise as a leading financial modelling consultant working with high-growth companies.

Today, Joe works closely with founders, CFOs and investment teams, advising on best-practice forecasting and how to build genuinely “VC-ready” financial models. He also sits on the Investment Committee of Blackfinch Ventures, a seed-stage tech VC and the UK’s best performing VCT fund of 2024, where his financial modelling and investment experience continue to add value.
